Annexure 14: Press Institute of India-Research Institute for Newspaper Development (PII-RIND)

Established in 1963, by Indian newspapers, PII-RIND is a professional institution involved in providing continuing education of journalists, dissemination of knowledge about better techniques of gathering and distribution of news, and making journalists aware of their professional responsibility. PII-RIND organizes, often in collaboration with other organisations, short-term courses, workshops, seminars and conferences. It runs a Computer School which offers short-term courses for students and journalists in the use of relevant computer Techniques. It publishes a bilingual (English and Hindi) quarterly journal Vidura (1964-) containing articles and news on media related issues.

Each issue also contains a bibliography “Current Readings” which covers latest literature on media. Its another publications in the RIND Survey a monthly published from RIND’s office (Chennai-600029). It publishes news and features on newspaper printing. PII introduced in (1974?-) Data India, a weekly digest of news events which has since been taken over by the PTI. IT has published a number of books and monographs useful for students. PII-RIND is also involved in the selection of journalists for study and training abroad.
