Annexure 9: Ordnance Factory Board Apprentices Programme

The Ordnance Factory Board in the Ministry of Defence which has 39 Ordnance Factories under its control located in Andhra Pradesh (2), Maharashtra (10), Chandigarh (1), Tamil Nadu (6), Madhya Pradesh (6), Uttar Pradesh (10), and West Bengal (4) recruits apprentices for training in 30 trades:

Boiler Attendant; Carpenter; Chemical Plant (Attendant Operator, Maintenance Mechanic); Electrician; Electronic Mechanic; Finished Leather Maker; Fitter; Footwear Maker; Furnace Operator; Instrument Mechanic; Machinist; Machinist (Grinder); Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic; Motor Vehicle Mechanic; Moulder; Optical Worker; Pattern Maker; Plumber; Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic; Sewing Machine Mechanic; Sheet Metal Worker; Steel Melting Hand; Switch Board Attendant; Tailor; Tool and Die-Maker; Turner; Welder (Gas & Electric); Winder (Armature); Wireman.

Eligibility: A pass in Class 10 with 45% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in each of mathematics and Science (Physics and Mathematics).

Duration: Three years or as may be prescribed for certain trades under the Apprentice Act, 1961.

Physical Fitness: Must be in good mental and physical health without any deformity.

Stipend (Per month): First year Rs.680.00, Second year Rs.780.00, Third year Rs.900.00, Fourth year Rs.1,020.00. In case of candidates possessing ITI training the period of training already undergone is considered for determining the stipend.

Selection: Selection is made on the basis of (a) (i) written test in Mathematics, Science and Free Hand Drawing (for non-ITI candidates only), (ii) percentage of marks obtained in the final qualification in respective trades (for ITI trained candidates), and (b) Interview and Medical Examination (for all candidates).

It is not obligatory on the part of the Board to offer employment on completion of training nor is it be obligatory for the apprentices to accept any employment, if offered.
